Stepping into history at Ooidonk Castle

Take the car and after a 20-minute drive, stand in front of Ooidonk Castle, one of the most beautiful castles in Belgium. From April to November, it is possible on Sundays and holidays to take a guided tour of this still-inhabited castle, where you will learn more about the rich history of this medieval fortified castle. Strolling through Ghent

The Graslei and the Korenlei are the oldest and perhaps the most beautiful and cozy places in Ghent. Here you will find many nice catering establishments. Of course, tasting the real Ghent Noses should not be missed. You can find the best ones in one of the carts on the Groentenmarkt.

Venture into nature

In the natural surroundings, you will find endless cycling and walking routes. Less than 2 km from the glamping is the urban nature reserve Bourgoyen-Ossemeersen. This park, which covers 220 hectares, has three hiking trails that take you past beautiful green nature with meadows and forest areas. Tens of thousands of birds perch in this area every year. There are special bird-watching huts along the way where you can spot the most beautiful birds undisturbed.

Plenty of fun at Blaarmeersen Sports and Recreation Park

Glamping at Urban Gardens Ghent means free access to the Blaarmeersen Sports and Recreation Park. In this green park with a large pond, there are plenty of water sports activities to do. Get in a canoe or kayak and paddle up the Leie. Learn to water ski or go pedal boating. For children, there is a water playground with a slide and a sandy beach that completes the recreation park. There is also plenty of fun to be had on dry land. For example, there is a skate park, a climbing rock and you can play mini-golf. The recreation park also has a hiking trail where you can completely relax with a hiking mountain and observation tower to admire the surroundings.

The site is located in a recreational area with free access to a swimming lake and walking opportunities around the water. Renovation works are ongoing: new sanitary blocks are modern and clean, but older blocks urgently need refurbishment. Many visitors complain about muddy pitches after rain, noise pollution from the nearby motorway, and electrical hook-ups located too far away requiring extra-long cables.

    I stayed in one of those Tiny Homes. Cozy, beautiful, and super clean. Close to lovely Ghent, 4–5 km
    You had to climb a staircase or ladder to get to the bed. It was a comfortable bed, but in my opinion, it’s more suited for younger people.
    The young lady at the front desk was super nice and helpful.

    Bed moest je via een trap/ladder bereiken. Lekker bedje maar ,m.i. meer iets voor wat jongere mensen.

    The campground is located in a recreational area on the outskirts of town. We didn’t find the expressway to be too noisy.
    The restroom buildings vary in age, but they’re all clean.
    The sinks are not covered.
    At the reception desk, we were given directions to the city. A bike path was marked on the map.
    The bike path into the city was … easy to find and, at 5 kilometers, a pleasant ride.
    Right next to the campground is a public beach with free admission for campers.

    Der Campingplatz liegt in einem Naherholungsgebiet am Stadtrand. Die Schnellstraße haben wir nicht als zu laut empfunden.
    Die Sanitärgebäude sind unterschiedlich alt, aber alle sauber.
    Die Spülbecken sind nicht überdacht.
    In der Rezeption wurde eine Wegbeschreibung in die Stadt ausgehändigt. Ein Radweg wurde eingezeichnet.
    Der Radweg in die Stadt war einfach zu finden und mit 5 Kilometer gut zu fahren.
    Direkt neben dem Campingplatz ist ein Strandbad mit freiem Eintritt für Camper.

    A lovely RV park within walking distance of the beautiful and clean city. Friendly managers and we received a nice information packet upon arrival. There’s a lot of history from World War I to explore. Good bike paths outside the city. Also excellent heated restroom facilities. We stayed here for 4 nights. Tip: fill up on water right when you … arrive—it saves you a lot of lugging around. We definitely plan to come back. You could easily stay here longer, because there’s so much to see. And, importantly, we were very lucky with the weather—we were still walking around in shorts and a T-shirt even on October 15.

    Een mooie camperplaats op loopafstand van de prachtige en schone stad. Vriendelijke beheerders en mooi info pakket bij aankomst gekregen. Veel geschiedenis uit WO I te vinden. Goede fietspaden buiten de stad. Ook uitstekende verwarmde sanitaire voorzieningen. Wij zijn hier 4 nachten geweest. Advies water tanken direct bij aankomst, scheelt sjouwen. Wij zijn zeker van plan nog eens terug te komen. Je zou hier wel langer kunnen staan, omdat er erg veel te zien is. En ook belangrijk we hebben het weer erg mee gehad, zelfs op 15 oktober nog in korte broek en T-shirt gelopen.
