Tiny house Galli - 5 persons

A simple campground in a beautiful location with lovely surroundings near the Vosges Mountains. The restrooms are clean. There are plenty of shaded spots, which was no luxury given the heat we experienced. A bread delivery service and simple meals are available. The only downside is that there’s no Wi-Fi at all, not even at the front desk.

When we arrived, the campsite gates were closed because reception did not officially open until 2:30 p.m. However, a lady popped her head out of a nearby flat, spotted us waiting and kindly came over to open the gate. She told us we could choose whichever pitch we liked, so we found a lovely corner spot underneath a tree. Josh put his tent up in the corner, we set everything out and quickly settled in for the night.

A pizza van was visiting the campsite that evening, which sounded like the perfect easy tea. Unfortunately, it turned out that the van did not accept cards, and we did not have any cash. Honestly, who does not accept cards nowadays? Apparently, this pizza van.

We climbed back into the motorhome and drove into the village to find a cash machine. As luck would have it, we spotted a pizza shop while we were there, so we decided to forget the pizza van and order directly from the shop instead. Josh chose a banana and chocolate pizza—which was definitely more dessert than dinner—and we brought everything back to the campsite to eat.

After tea, we had another game of Scrabble, and I won—again. Andrew is gradually improving, and the scores are becoming slightly closer, but he still cannot quite beat me. I am sure his day will come eventually… although perhaps not on this holiday.

We also cycled down into the centre of Wasselonne for a little look around. Thankfully, there were no incidents this time: no storks narrowly missing our heads and no Andrew disappearing into a ditch. The ride back to the campsite did include a fairly steep hill, though, so there was plenty of unexpected thigh work. Who needs a gym when you have bicycles and a French hillside?

There was a municipal football pitch close to the campsite, and Josh went over twice to play football with some local lads. He also had two showers and came back with dirty socks twice, leaving his clothes on the floor twice—as per usual. At least some things remain consistent wherever we travel.

The campsite itself was probably around a three-and-a-half-star site. The toilets and showers were good, and we managed to get a load of washing done. We had to ask the campsite lady to operate the washing machine for us, and it cost €4, but everything dried surprisingly quickly.

Later, we relaxed and watched part of a film before settling down for the night. It rained a little while we were sleeping, but nothing too dramatic.

We had already agreed that we would get up fairly early the following morning, pack everything away and continue to our next destination: Camping Ettelbruck in Luxembourg.

Wasselonne may only have been a brief stop on our journey, but it gave us pizza, football, a challenging cycle ride, clean washing and yet another Scrabble victory for me. Not bad for one night.

I spent a night in a tent during a bike trip in July 2026.
I received a very warm welcome. That day, the pizza truck was there, as well as a local fruit and vegetable farmer. The reception area has a tiny grocery section for emergencies, but since cycling is all about making do, I was happy to find chips and cookies 🍪
I had plenty of space for my tent. The campground was quiet—nothing like Belfort the night before.
The restrooms were spotless, the shower was hot (too hot during a heatwave 😉), and best of all, for once there were enough toilets, showers, and sink areas—not to mention the dishwashing and laundry stations. Very nice. The icing on the cake: 5 clothes racks in the showers! Now that was luxury! Having stayed at quite a few campsites, most of the time you have to shower with one hand and hold your clothes with the other!
Well, the €12 Onlycamp package for a solo cyclist.... municipal campgrounds are 6–8 euros... but you have to hold your clothes in your hand while showering 😄
Thanks to the lady at the front desk—smiles always feel good after 8 hours of cycling alone in your own little bubble.
