Nature campsite Domaine Papillon in the beautiful Lot Valley

Domaine Papillon is located in the heart of the Parc naturel régional des Causses du Quercy, just a stone's throw from medieval Figeac. Among the trees you'll find a heated swimming pool measuring 6 by 15 meters, kept at 26 degrees, with a solarium and loungers next to it. From May to September you can take a dip in the water; afterwards, stop by the snack bar terrace for a bite and a drink. Children spend their day between the mini club, trampoline, ping-pong table, and the mini farm with sheep, dwarf goats, and chickens, all patiently waiting to be petted. Those who prefer a quieter pace can join in at the games room or pick out a book from the library. Outside, there is a pétanque court and a basketball hoop. On Friday evening the campfire is lit at 9:00 pm for stories under the Quercy starry sky. From the campsite you can drive to Saint-Cirq-Lapopie, Rocamadour, the Gouffre de Padirac, and the Célé valley.

Surroundings

Stroll through the alleys of Figeac

Figeac holds the title City of Art and History, and you notice it as soon as you enter the medieval city center. You walk past half-timbered facades and yellow sandstone buildings to the Cité de Champollion, the museum dedicated to the deciphering of hieroglyphic script. On Saturday morning, the central square fills with a market where local producers display cheese, nuts, and confits. Afterwards, you sit on a terrace at the Place Vival before the afternoon sun empties the streets.

Sail through the Célé Valley

From the Célé Valley, you paddle between limestone cliffs, past caves you can look straight into from your canoe. The water is calm enough for swimming in between. Villages like Espagnac-Sainte-Eulalie are situated on the banks, with the Romanesque priory half-hidden behind poplars. For those who prefer hiking, there are walking trails along the cliff edge that offer views of the meanders below. The valley is narrow, green, and remarkably quiet for such an attractive stretch of water.

Visit the Renaissance castle of Assier

Assier is home to one of the few pure Renaissance castles in the region, built by Galiot de Genouillac, commander-in-chief of artillery under Francis I. The facades are adorned with reliefs of cannons and military emblems. Right next to the castle, you can visit a goose farm where demonstrations show how foie gras is prepared. A recreational lake within walking distance completes the afternoon.

Hike the Causses du Quercy

Around the park, walking and cycling paths run straight through the limestone plateau of the Causses du Quercy, a UNESCO Global Geopark. You'll pass dry stone walls, cazelles (round stone shelters), and open plateaus with sweeping views. If you look closely, you'll see orchids along the edges of the paths in spring. The landscape asks little of you besides a good pair of shoes.
