Surroundings

Get on your bike from the park

Rent a (electric) bike at Valk Bike or Cycle Center and ride into the hills of South Limburg. The region has hundreds of kilometers of signposted cycling routes past the most beautiful views, orchards and small villages. On an electric bike, you can easily tackle the steeper slopes too. Discover cycling routes through the forest with the quietest forest paths or take a route along the Meuse. Pick up the map, adjust the saddle and set off - that's all there is to it.

Taste wine at Wijndomein St. Martinus

In the South Limburg hilly landscape near Gronsveld lies Wijndomein St. Martinus, one of the larger wine producers in the region. You walk through the vineyards, hear how the grapes are grown on the chalk-rich soil, and finish with a tasting of white, rosé, and red wines. The combination of slope, sun, and chalky soil gives the wines a character of their own that you will hardly find anywhere else in the Netherlands. Anyone who still hasn't had enough after the tasting can take a bottle back to the park.

Discover the Burgundian Maastricht

At about half an hour’s cycling from Meerssen lies Maastricht, one of the most pleasant cities in the Netherlands. Stroll through atmospheric streets such as Rechtstraat, Stokstraat and Wycker Brugstraat, where boutiques, specialty shops and well-known stores alternate. Then take a seat on one of the many terraces at Vrijthof or Markt and enjoy a cup of coffee with a view of the imposing Sint-Servaas Basilica or the historic town hall. Lovers of good food can visit the many restaurants, bistros and cozy cafés that the city is rich in. Thanks to the compact city center, you can easily discover the main sights on foot. Maastricht is therefore the ideal destination for a relaxing day full of culture, shopping and Limburg hospitality.

Walking through hilly South Limburg

South Limburg is a paradise for hikers, with an extensive network of routes through rolling hills, hollow roads, chestnut forests and vast plateaus. From Meerssen you can walk straight into a landscape that feels more like the Eifel than the Netherlands. Through Visit Zuid-Limburg you can find routes for every level, from short walks through picturesque villages to challenging day trips. Along the way you are rewarded with beautiful views, half-timbered houses and atmospheric terraces where you can rest for a while. Thanks to the differences in elevation, every walk feels different. Put on sturdy walking shoes and bring enough water, because the Limburg hills sometimes demand just a little more effort than you would expect at first glance.

    It's a lovely, quiet, small-scale campground.

We stayed at a glamping lodge for two nights—it was a great experience. The lodge is equipped with everything you need, cozy, and very nicely decorated...We’d read online beforehand that the lodge is located on a busy road and is very noisy—yes, that was the only thing that was a bit bothersome, but we were able to tune it out after a few hours. I’d book it again—maybe a tiny house this time; those are great too ☀️

We had high expectations for the 10-person wellness house, but unfortunately, our stay there didn’t live up to them. With wellness accommodations, you expect a luxurious and well-kept atmosphere, but the house didn’t look clean or well-maintained. Among other things, we found dirty walls and doors, a couch with hair and food scraps, a full dishwasher, a dirty cutlery drawer, and an oven with crumbs and food scraps. One of the sinks in the bedrooms contained hair and toothpaste residue. There was a sewer smell in the first-floor bathroom, and broken light bulbs. Furthermore, there was a thick layer of dust everywhere, cobwebs on the light fixtures, and very dirty soap dispensers that we preferred not to use.

Outside, too, there was a backlog of maintenance: peeling paint, crumbling concrete, a bare and moss-covered balcony, and a yard with uncut grass, lots of weeds, and bare patches. In addition, the house isn’t located within the park itself but right on the street, which means there’s little privacy, and passersby can easily walk onto the property and stand in front of the windows to look inside. The constant traffic also made it hard to relax, which doesn’t fit with a wellness experience. There was also a lot of construction work going on in the park. We were told that the house has only been available for rent for a year, but the guestbook already contained reviews dating back to 2023.

Although there is a hot tub, sauna, and outdoor shower, these amenities alone do not create a wellness atmosphere. The outdoor shower consisted of a separate showerhead connected to a garden hose. The house clearly still needs a lot of love, maintenance, and, above all, a thorough cleaning before it can truly be marketed as a wellness retreat.

We do want to emphasize, however, that the lady who welcomed us was incredibly friendly and took immediate action. She came with a colleague to do some cleaning, and we received two bottles of wine as a gesture of goodwill. That was greatly appreciated. Despite their efforts, however, more than just a quick cleaning was needed to bring the house up to the desired standard.

With a little extra attention to thorough cleaning, maintenance, and creating more privacy and tranquility, this accommodation could truly develop into a wonderful wellness retreat in the future.

Absolutely loved our stay at Mooidal Boutique Park! ✨🌿

The tiny house was incredibly stylish, cozy, and thoughtfully designed - everything felt modern yet super relaxing. The outdoor terrace with the bathtub was definitely the highlight for us and made the whole experience feel extra special.

It’s the perfect little escape to slow down, unwind, and enjoy beautiful surroundings. You can really feel how much love and attention has gone into creating this place.
