Holiday chalet comfort - 5 persons

A beautiful location right on the water and next to a nature park. Wonderfully peaceful and idyllic.
The location is ideal for excursions by bike or on foot.
Giethoorn is just a few kilometers away.

House 158 is in a beautiful location, but that’s about all there is to say about it. Upon arrival, we found the house was not clean: sauce on the baseboards in the kitchen, food scraps on kitchen utensils, the range hood was filthy, dog hair on the couch, and hair stuck to the tiles in the corner of the bathroom, etc. In addition, several … baseboards were broken, and in the living room, the curtains weren’t properly hooked and were hanging loose. The freezer drawers wouldn’t open due to massive ice buildup, which meant the freezer was running at full capacity constantly—with all the noise that entailed—and it was clearly audible even in the adjoining bedroom, so we didn’t get much sleep these past few days. The bedroom door handle was loose, so the door couldn’t be locked. One bedroom had no curtain; instead, they’d covered the window with trash bags (we were told the supplier hadn’t delivered the curtain on time, but as far as we could tell, there were no signs that anything had ever been hung there). After noting all of this, we immediately reported it. The cleaning staff then gave the place a superficial cleaning, but the cottage was certainly not clean afterward, and nothing was done about the reported issues. After the cleaning (we weren’t in the cottage at the time), we reported again to the front desk that we were dissatisfied; they asked what we wanted instead. Another cottage by the water (since we had booked that as our preference) wasn’t available due to full occupancy. We said we wanted compensation; they said they would discuss it and get back to us. Without any prior consultation, we later received an email stating that 10% of the rental price had been refunded to us; upon checking, it turned out that the refunded amount did not match the rental price we had paid. We contacted them again, but as of four weeks ago, we haven’t received a response. The rental rates at the park are quite high, and that’s certainly not a problem as long as what’s advertised actually matches reality. We regularly rent a cottage, but we’ve never experienced anything like this before. Very quiet, clean, and located right on a lake. It's a 5-minute drive to Giethoorn.

The house looked very high-quality on the website. Unfortunately, we were disappointed when we arrived. The house is not maintained at all and is also extremely poorly cleaned. And we’re definitely not picky. But dirty placemats in the cupboard, a shower covered in black mold, and a bedroom with walls full of dusty cobwebs just aren’t … inviting.
The so-called “upper floor” is unusable because it isn’t actually a floor—you can only access it by crawling.
The park is very small, and without a car, you’re pretty much on your own.
Communication with the front desk beforehand works sometimes well and sometimes not so well. On the day of arrival, you have two hours to report any issues; this is done via email because the front desk is rarely staffed. I sent an email on Saturday afternoon, and it wasn’t answered until Wednesday. This concerned cleaning tasks we were still waiting for (a completely overflowing ashtray).
The location is very quiet and great, but the issues are too serious for us to come back again. Read more Show less
