Unfortunately, the noise from the nearby highway was much louder than expected. On top of that, the chalet was not in perfect condition: two door locks and the oven display were broken, and it wasn’t clean either. Given the lack of air conditioning, you could almost think that meat would turn medium-rare just by sitting in the kitchen during the height of summer. On a positive note, one of the locks was replaced while we were away. That speaks to a generally conscientious service. The final nail in the coffin of our vacation idyll came this morning at 9 a.m.: Two brush cutters kicked off the day with the noise level of a medium-sized forestry operation. Not only was our morning routine disrupted, but my dream was also expertly mowed down without warning. Attempts to revive it were unsuccessful. Due to the weather, we left two days early, after which we were offered a refund—which, of course, isn’t a given. When the refund of 15 euros finally arrived, however, our joy was limited.
