Nature campsite Domaine Papillon in the beautiful Lot Valley

Domaine Papillon is located in the heart of the Parc naturel régional des Causses du Quercy, just a stone's throw from medieval Figeac. Among the trees you'll find a heated swimming pool measuring 6 by 15 meters, kept at 26 degrees, with a solarium and loungers next to it. From May to September you can take a dip in the water; afterwards, stop by the snack bar terrace for a bite and a drink. Children spend their day between the mini club, trampoline, ping-pong table, and the mini farm with sheep, dwarf goats, and chickens, all patiently waiting to be petted. Those who prefer a quieter pace can join in at the games room or pick out a book from the library. Outside, there is a pétanque court and a basketball hoop. On Friday evening the campfire is lit at 9:00 pm for stories under the Quercy starry sky. From the campsite you can drive to Saint-Cirq-Lapopie, Rocamadour, the Gouffre de Padirac, and the Célé valley.

View of a picturesque village near Reyrevignes, Occitanie, France, featuring a church, river, and hills.
Aerial view of a lively market square in Reyrevignes, Occitanie, France, with colorful stalls and old buildings.

Stroll through the alleys of Figeac

Figeac holds the title City of Art and History, and you notice it as soon as you enter the medieval city center. You walk past half-timbered facades and yellow sandstone buildings to the Cité de Champollion, the museum dedicated to the deciphering of hieroglyphic script. On Saturday morning, the central square fills with a market where local producers display cheese, nuts, and confits. Afterwards, you sit on a terrace at the Place Vival before the afternoon sun empties the streets.

Sail through the Célé Valley

From the Célé Valley, you paddle between limestone cliffs, past caves you can look straight into from your canoe. The water is calm enough for swimming in between. Villages like Espagnac-Sainte-Eulalie are situated on the banks, with the Romanesque priory half-hidden behind poplars. For those who prefer hiking, there are walking trails along the cliff edge that offer views of the meanders below. The valley is narrow, green, and remarkably quiet for such an attractive stretch of water.

Visit the Renaissance castle of Assier

Assier is home to one of the few pure Renaissance castles in the region, built by Galiot de Genouillac, commander-in-chief of artillery under Francis I. The facades are adorned with reliefs of cannons and military emblems. Right next to the castle, you can visit a goose farm where demonstrations show how foie gras is prepared. A recreational lake within walking distance completes the afternoon.

Hike the Causses du Quercy

Around the park, walking and cycling paths run straight through the limestone plateau of the Causses du Quercy, a UNESCO Global Geopark. You'll pass dry stone walls, cazelles (round stone shelters), and open plateaus with sweeping views. If you look closely, you'll see orchids along the edges of the paths in spring. The landscape asks little of you besides a good pair of shoes.

Guests particularly praise the exceptionally friendly and helpful staff who provide a warm, personal welcome. The peaceful location surrounded by nature, with spacious and shaded pitches under the trees, is highly appreciated. The heated swimming pool is a favourite for young and old alike, and the restaurant serves tasty local dishes at reasonable prices. Some guests did notice odour issues near the drainage and found the sanitary facilities sometimes too far from the pitches.

    A warm and unpretentious welcome.
The campsites are well-shaded. A beautiful, large heated pool. Food available on-site and drinks at the bar. I even got to try the “pompe à huile” for breakfast
    A quiet and pleasant place

    A huge disappointment for a 3-star campground!!

Aside from a nice website and a new pool, the amenities really don’t live up to what you’d expect from a 3-star campground.

The facilities are aging and have sometimes been patched up haphazardly. The campsites are located about 200 meters from the showers and dishwashing area, with a steep incline, steps, and a poorly maintained, sloping walkway.

The shower area smells like a sewer, and the water is constantly lukewarm, regardless of the time of day.
On the campsites, depending on the wind and humidity, odors from the sewage system are also noticeable.

For families with a baby, there are no dedicated facilities in the restroom area, except for a high chair at the snack bar.

Good to know: if a family member or friend just stops by to say hello, the managers will charge you €4.50 per visitor (a fee not clearly stated in the Terms and Conditions), even if they don’t use the pool, showers, restrooms, or any other campground services.

As seasoned campers, we left this campground truly disappointed as our summer came to a close!

Spent two weeks there in July.
This campground is a peaceful haven far from the overcrowded and overpriced campgrounds... impeccable hospitality, always with a smile and checking to make sure everything is okay, a very pleasant little bar and restaurant, a pool, and restrooms that are always clean.
The campground’s kids’ club is always there to help make new friends; my two daughters had a wonderful two weeks there.
The location is ideal for exploring the region... I highly recommend it! Thank you for this wonderful stay!

This campground was a wonderful discovery for us during a one-night stopover, camping in a tent with our dog.
We would have loved to stay longer—it was that pleasant.
A quiet, intimate campground with beautiful tent sites, a pool, and a delightful restaurant and bar featuring local products. A few seasonal activities are offered, including feeding the campground’s animals (sheep, goats).
Thanks to the very welcoming staff! We’ll definitely be back.
