Bad Hoophuizen

A large park with a wide variety of accommodations near a small "beach." The location itself isn't really that exciting. You have to travel a bit to reach nice places to visit, such as Utrecht or Amsterdam.

Unfortunately, our experience was very mixed.
On the positive side:
— the beach is very beautiful, as is the playground
— our house had a rooftop terrace with a gorgeous view of the lake and a stunning sunset

We stayed in a “Cube Elite 6” house with three adults, a toddler, and a baby. How this house is supposed to accommodate 6 … adults is a mystery to me. Especially since, although there are two small shower rooms, there’s only one toilet. The sleeping areas were very cramped and really only suitable for sleeping. Unfortunately, the house wasn’t air-conditioned. We were there during the last week of August, and while daytime temperatures didn’t exceed 23 degrees, the large windows made it unbearably hot inside the house, especially in the evenings. As a result, the sleeping area under the roof was practically unusable, as the temperature there soared to 28 degrees. It’s certainly unbearable in the height of summer.

Fortunately, we had four days of good weather during our one-week stay and were able to enjoy the beach. When the weather turned, however, we had to look for activities outside the resort. The indoor pool was closed for the entire duration of our stay due to a technical malfunction. We weren’t informed of this by the front desk upon arrival. There really isn’t anything to do at the resort when the weather is bad, and the cottages are simply too expensive for that. On top of that, the restaurant was closed most of the time and could only be visited with a reservation. Since there was no snack bar available—or it wasn’t open—we had to either cook all our own meals or go out to eat. Due to the park’s location, this was unfortunately only possible by car.

All in all, the value for money wasn’t right for us, and we wouldn’t come back. Read more Show less

These are houses you can rent

Beautiful and well-maintained bungalow complex.
Good location near several beach coves, quiet and surrounded by greenery, but unfortunately far from towns and shopping areas.
That means it’s not within walking distance; you always have to go by bike or car.
The restaurant in the park has very friendly staff, and the food is also very … good. It offers good value for the price.
The only drawback is the cleanliness. We’ve stayed at vacation parks several times before, and unfortunately, even here, many of the cleaning staff seem to turn a blind eye to certain issues. There are cobwebs, hair, and greasy surfaces in the kitchen. Read more Show less
