A pleasant and clean campground

So far, we've been very satisfied with this campground—nice sites with or without private bathrooms, and the beach is about a 700-meter walk, which was manageable even at 35 degrees. The pool at the campground was also nice while we were there, and we'd already gone on some fun bike rides.

A delightful, small-scale family campground with the authentic atmosphere of a true Dutch campground. Peace, space, and a friendly, personal atmosphere make it a wonderful place to stay. The campground is well-maintained and beautifully landscaped. Ideal for families looking for relaxation, nature, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. We had a great time and would love to come back!

The staff isn't paying attention at the pool; it seems more fun than it actually is—it's 1.30 at its deepest—and the chill hall is almost always closed because the staff goes to the pool and just stands there chatting instead of keeping an eye on things.

The campground is in a great location right by the beach; the staff at the front desk were very welcoming; it was awesome being able to pre-order pastries or bread for the next day 😃, and the Freecamp site was really nice—a small kitchen with a fridge, sink, and storage space, a perfect outdoor dining table, and the best part—our own private toilet and shower!! The pool was perfect, and the service at the restaurant was great—we had a delicious meal. I highly recommend this place—thank you for letting us enjoy a lovely little weekend getaway.

A disappointing stay: way too expensive for the service provided. We arrived during a heat wave: from the reception area to the lodge—we had to walk there, as there was no transportation available, not even a golf cart. On the way, we had plenty of time to notice how poorly maintained the grounds were—a maintenance cart abandoned in a bush, brambles…
Arrival at the lodge: the AC was on—a plus. No free bottled water available, except for one in the minibar that costs 1.90 euros for 33 cl! Two plastic stemmed glasses, no box of tissues. Very limited supply of tea and coffee (free capsules)
Warning: no guardrail at the pond access; safety is somewhat lacking.
French doors and front door are poorly maintained, making them very difficult to open and close. In fact, upon our arrival, the French door wasn’t locked.
Very meager breakfast basket.
Price per night: €390!!!
They should seriously consider lowering the price!
Plus: the view and the peace and quiet
Minus: the unkempt grounds and amenities that don’t justify the price!

A stay that was characterized above all by peace and quiet, nature, and a warm, friendly atmosphere.

Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed by a friendly staff member who escorted us to our spot in a golf cart. A welcome like that makes an immediate difference. No rushing or standard small talk, but someone who clearly enjoys her work and instantly makes you feel welcome. That sets the tone for your stay.

Our campsite had an interesting “sun schedule”: lovely shade in the morning, but by late morning, our spot slowly turned into a private sunbathing area. During the hot afternoon hours, we therefore regularly sought relief from the heat in the shade behind the trailer. Other spots on the campground seemed to have a more balanced mix of sun and shade, something to keep in mind if you’re visiting on hot days.

The campground itself is quiet. Many tourists are out exploring the area during the day, making it pleasantly quiet. The regular guests have often decorated their sites with lovely little gardens, giving the whole place a well-kept appearance.

One thing that stood out: fat bikes seem to be about as popular here as regular bikes used to be. Children sometimes race around the campground with great enthusiasm. While drivers are rightfully required to drive at a snail’s pace, some fat bike riders seem to think they’re participating in a time trial through the Achterhoek. This occasionally leads to some tense moments for hikers, dogs, and fellow campers. A little extra supervision here wouldn’t be a bad idea.

The campground’s location is excellent. Surrounded by woods and nature, there are plenty of biking and hiking trails to explore the beautiful Achterhoek region. For dog owners, it’s also a wonderful area to go on adventures together.

Upon arrival, we were given four shower tokens. That immediately brought back a nostalgic feeling. Shower tokens and separate tokens for hot dishwater are rarely seen these days. It feels like stepping back in time to a campground from twenty years ago. Charming for nostalgia lovers, but a bit less practical for those used to unlimited hot water. On the other hand, the restrooms are exceptionally well-maintained. The shower and restroom buildings were clean and well-maintained during our stay.

There’s also a small campground store. Handy for fresh rolls at breakfast, though these do need to be ordered in advance. Additionally, the opening hours are limited, so spontaneous morning runs for forgotten groceries don’t always end successfully. Slightly longer hours or a wider selection would be a nice addition, but it’s perfectly adequate for basic needs.

The pool is great for a refreshing dip on hot days. It’s not a huge water park, but it’s big enough to cool off. For enthusiasts, there’s also a mini-golf course, which provides extra entertainment right on the campground.

In terms of atmosphere, the brasserie feels more like a cozy cafeteria than a charming restaurant. It’s great for a bite to eat and a drink, but don’t expect any culinary surprises. One small area for improvement: when you order a bottle of wine, you’d actually expect wine glasses. Drinking wine from a standard glass feels a bit like driving a convertible through a car wash. Fortunately, the friendly staff more than made up for it. Here, too, the staff were open to a chat and provided pleasant service.

Camping De Wrange isn’t the kind of campground with water slides, armies of entertainers, and evening shows with fireworks. Instead, it’s a place where peace, hospitality, and nature take center stage. The atmosphere is friendly, the campground is well-maintained, and the surrounding area invites you to explore. With a few minor improvements, the campground could be even better, but if you’re looking for relaxation, space, and the warm hospitality of the Achterhoek region, this is definitely the place for you.
