Chalet - 4 persons

We stayed here for a week, from Friday to Friday. The vacation homes are all equipped the same way, depending on the number of beds. The complex itself is very well maintained, and they’re there to help you even at night if something comes up and you need to pop out for a bit by car. So everything was great—we’ll definitely stop by again in the summer.

Since we’d had a really nice chalet the previous year, we noticed a pungent odor as soon as we moved in this year. We aired out the place, but the smell wouldn’t go away. It turned out that someone had been smoking heavily in the bedroom—and probably throughout the rest of the chalet as well. The blankets and pillows reeked of nicotine. We … reported this the next day, after which a staff member tried to burn off the smell with methyl alcohol in the chalet. We then decided to leave the camp because that wouldn’t remove the nicotine smell from the walls and fabrics. We were then offered an alternative chalet. Stay from August 24 to September 24 – September location

We stayed at the Witterzomer campground for a month. Unfortunately, there were a few things that were quite disappointing during our stay.

The campground restaurant has limited hours. One evening when the restaurant was supposed to be open according to the posted hours, we made … a special trip there, only to find that it was closed. Apparently, they had decided on their own to close because there were no guests. We reported this to the front desk. Fortunately, the front desk clerk arranged for us to order a meal at the snack bar—one we would otherwise have been able to eat at the restaurant. We were happy about that in principle, but the quality and quantity were very disappointing: a small handful of fries, a (frozen) hamburger, and a few lettuce leaves for €14—we really didn’t think that was worth the price.

In addition, we reported to the front desk that the cleaning of the restroom facility at Berkenweide was very poor. We genuinely wondered whether the restroom facility was being cleaned regularly and thoroughly. We were told that something would be done about it. Unfortunately, we saw hardly any improvement throughout our entire stay. We found the hygiene in the restroom facility to be truly inadequate.

We also paid €40 for Wi-Fi during our four weeks at the campground. Unfortunately, the signal was very poor. We regularly had no reception at all, which made us wonder what we had actually paid for.

In short: we had a lovely month at our September campsite, but the hygiene of the restroom facilities, the unreliable Wi-Fi, and our experience with the restaurant made our stay less enjoyable. We hope the campground takes these issues seriously, because, in our opinion, the cleaning and Wi-Fi in particular really need to improve. Read more Show less

Disappointing Stay – Hospitality and Hygiene Left Much to Be Desired
Unfortunately, our stay didn’t go as we had hoped. Upon arrival, the cottage wasn’t really clean and looked somewhat neglected. In addition, the mattresses were quite worn out and sagging, which didn’t help us get a good night’s sleep.
The biggest disappointment, however, … was the after-service. When we realized upon returning home that we had forgotten some items, we contacted them. Unfortunately, the company refused to check inside the cottage to see if anything had been left behind.
The fact that they wouldn’t even look doesn’t inspire much confidence in the cleaning process between guests—after all, relatively large items should be immediately noticeable during a normal cleaning. We didn’t use the campground, so I can’t comment on that.
But we did use the bowling alley.
It was downstairs. We weren’t served; we had to carry a tray full of glasses up and down a narrow staircase ourselves. And we weren’t allowed to order any snacks either, because eating wasn’t permitted downstairs.
