Unfortunately, I was shortchanged a bit of money, and all the simple stuff (reservation / dog fee) suddenly isn’t working anymore.

The campground is nice—it’s all flat, and the pools are great, too. The restrooms and showers are decent.

It’s annoying that the paddle tennis courts are right next to the campsites; if you want some peace and quiet, it’s impossible here.

On top of that, the pool’s PA system is also really loud.

And to top it all off, Saturday afternoon was unbearable with the constant racket—a mix of music and the sound of the paddleball game. It went on from 7 p.m. until the bar closed. Pretty unbearable if you’ve come to the campground to rest and enjoy some peace and quiet.

The mosquitoes are no longer the campground’s responsibility. Bring your own insect repellent and mosquito swatters.

I’d stay there again, but on a site far from the paddle tennis courts, and I would definitely ask them to ensure a quiet environment for the campers.

The positives are the services offered given the price and the lakeside location.

Negatives: When we went to the restaurant at 1:30 p.m., there were no issues; we were welcomed normally for lunch. After we finished our meal (which, to be honest, was just average—it was a thin, breaded chicken cutlet), we wanted to order dessert, but were refused because it was too late (2:00 p.m.)
The second negative point is that the internet connection doesn’t work everywhere; we had rented a tent and had to go to the front desk to get a reliable internet connection.
The third negative point concerns the linens: the towels were clean, to be sure, but stained and worn, and the fitted sheet had a hole from a cigarette burn.
For a 5-star campground, I think there’s room for improvement, even though we had a decent two-day stay.

A great choice for a relaxing vacation.
The campground offers moments of true tranquility alongside times of fun and togetherness.
There’s a great on-site spot for quick meals, breakfast, and aperitifs.
Don’t overlook the lakeside location, which makes walking or biking a great way to unwind.
The cottages are absolutely perfect—well-equipped and clean.

Everything was clean and very well organized. The beach was clean. The sea was wonderful. The sites were spacious and had plenty of shade. The electricity always worked. The restrooms were spacious and clean. We chose this campground because of the golf course. Tee times can be booked via WhatsApp or on-site. Pitch and putt and the driving range cost 6 euros.
Buying bread rolls in the morning is actually a bit tricky. However, there are various shopping options, e.g., in Duna Verde.
The campground was quite busy, yet it was pleasantly quiet. We visited in mid-September. We’d come back anytime.

Some campgrounds have all the amenities you’re looking for, but Domaine des Messires has something extra that’s much harder to describe: from the moment you arrive, it just feels right.

The campground is spacious, beautifully green and wooded, and laid out very naturally around its own lake. The distinctive main building adds a lot of character to the whole place, and the spacious campsites offer plenty of privacy and shade. There’s plenty to do and everything is well-maintained, but nowhere does it feel crowded, overrun, or overly organized.

What really makes the difference for us is the atmosphere. The owners and staff are exceptionally friendly, helpful, and always willing to do something for you. The other guests contribute to this as well: they’re mostly friendly and laid-back people. Connections form easily and naturally, without any pressure. If you’re looking for a social atmosphere, it’s there; if you just want to enjoy the peace and quiet with your own family in your own space, that’s just as possible. It’s precisely that combination that makes the campground feel like a warm embrace to us.

For our children, it was one big paradise. There are lots of kids—mostly Dutch—and they made friends in no time. In the morning, a quick stop at the arts-and-crafts club, followed by swimming, boating, and hanging out with friends. You don’t really see them again until they’re hungry or want an ice cream. Exactly how a vacation with kids should be, as far as we’re concerned.

With beautiful summer weather, the lake is worth its weight in gold. The water stays wonderfully refreshing, even when it’s really hot. Swimming, grabbing a free SUP or canoe, or just sitting by the water’s edge or on the little beach: there have been plenty of days when we didn’t feel the slightest need to leave the campground. Plus, there are plenty of swim vests and life jackets available to borrow, so the kids can have a great time on the water too.

It’s not only practical but also just really pleasant. In the morning, enjoy fresh bread from the bread service; there’s a regular farmers’ market, and at the restaurant you can have delicious and affordable meals, grab takeout, or enjoy a beer on tap at the end of the day. And perhaps even more important for the kids: being able to get an ice cream all day long.

If you want to get out and about, there’s plenty to do in the area. There are beautiful mountain bike trails, lively evening markets in the surrounding towns, and plenty of options for a day trip.

For us, Domaine des Messires is the perfect spot for a May or summer vacation—and especially for staying a few weeks. Space and privacy when you want it, a lively atmosphere when you’re in the mood, plenty of freedom for the kids, and all the comforts you need to truly enjoy your own vacation. We’ll definitely be back!

And then, of course, there were M. and A(braham). They, too, contributed in their own special way to a vacation we won’t soon forget. We’re still eating ice cream to keep the memory alive. 😉
