Surroundings

Look through the telescope at the Centre-Ardenne Observatory

The Centre-Ardenne Observatory is Wallonia's only public observatory and is located less than ten kilometres from the park. Various telescopes are set up in its six domes, including one of the most powerful in Belgium. Point the telescope yourself at the moon, planets or distant galaxies and discover the starry sky up close. The observatory regularly organises themed evenings and special activities. Be sure to check the programme in advance to see which activities are offered during your visit.

Cycle through the valleys around Neufchâteau

The region around Neufchâteau is criss-crossed by cycling routes that take you past streams, through green valleys and over wooded hills. Hire a bike and follow one of the signposted routes that depart from the town. Along the way, you can enjoy quiet roads, beautiful views and the varied nature of the Ardennes. Thanks to the rolling hills, the area is challenging without the routes becoming too strenuous. Pass through small villages along the way and take a break on a cosy terrace for a drink or a regional dish.

Water fun at Lake Neufchâteau

About a ten-minute drive away is Lake Neufchâteau, a wonderful destination for an active or relaxing day by the water. Take a refreshing dip, relax on the small beach or hire a kayak or pedalo to explore the lake from the water. It is also a lovely place for families, thanks to the playground and spacious sunbathing lawns along the shore. Fancy even more water fun? About a twenty-minute drive away, you can reach the River Semois, where you can swim, canoe or kayak among the green hills of the Ardennes. Several quiet little beaches line the river, where you can enjoy the view and the natural swimming water. An ideal setting for lovers of water and nature.

Discover Bouillon Castle and Orval Abbey

About a half-hour drive away is the impressive Bouillon Castle, one of Belgium's best-known medieval castles. The centuries-old fortress towers high above the River Semois and takes you back in time. Wander through the corridors, towers and courtyards, and enjoy the magnificent views over Bouillon and the surrounding Ardennes. Spectacular bird-of-prey shows are held regularly. Just over a half-hour drive away is Orval Abbey, world-famous for its Trappist beer and artisanal Orval cheese. Visit the museum, stroll past the atmospheric ruins of the old abbey and discover all about its rich history and centuries-old brewing tradition. In the abbey shop, you can of course take home a bottle of Orval or a piece of cheese as a tasty souvenir.

Practical information

ground plan
  • Pets are welcome at the park in some of the accommodations. Select your pet(s) under the number of travellers to see which accommodations welcome pets.

  • Firework-free: this holiday park is completely firework-free during the New Year period. You are therefore not allowed to set off fireworks – not even on a small scale – and this is actively monitored. This makes the park a pleasant place for those seeking peace and quiet during the holidays, for example if you have a pet or are visiting with young children who do not like fireworks. The park is also located in a municipality where fireworks are prohibited. Very few fireworks are therefore expected in the immediate area, although we cannot guarantee this completely.

There were two of us in a 4-bed bungalow. Perfect for two, but not really suitable for four. There’s only one toilet. The shower rooms are integrated into the bedrooms without doors. The smaller bedroom is only suitable for older children. The fixed staircase leading up to the bed is totally impractical and dangerous. I don’t know where you could set up a baby or toddler bed in the bedrooms. The bedrooms are very cramped, but the showers are great. The bed in the “big” bedroom isn’t suitable for people with back problems. The mattresses are extremely soft, and with a topper on top, you sink down almost to the floor at first. We had to take it off. The huge comforter is very heavy. The kitchen is equipped for simple cooking. The height of the oven is dangerous!!! The TV didn’t work properly. No German channels. The English channels have very poor reception. Wi-Fi is okay. There were 4 large towels. No small ones. 1 dish towel, 1 hand towel in the kitchen, 1 mini hand towel in the bathroom. That’s not enough for me for one week. It would have been impossible for four people. The late check-in and very early check-out are major drawbacks. Two full days are lost. Given the high prices, this is really unacceptable. The steps in front of the house are very short, unlit, and have no handrail.

When we arrived, the patio was very dirty. There was bird droppings everywhere—even on the windows. Overall, the windows weren’t clean. The tree over the patio had a lot of dead branches. Unfortunately, we had to complain, to which we were told: “The patio isn’t cleaned.” There was a utility room attached to the house where cleaning supplies could be found. Later, however, the manager did come by and arranged for the dead wood to be sawed off the tree the next day, and the patio and furniture were cleaned with a pressure washer. The staff was very friendly.

The food at the restaurant is very good! The park is spacious. We were lucky to get House 1, one of the best houses in the park. It’s in the woods, with no neighbors who can see in, and no path leading past the house. It was perfect for us.

I’m not sure yet if we’ll come back. The cottages are really nicely furnished, but the bed, the check-in and check-out times are major downsides for me.

Another important point: There are no fly screens on the windows—only half of each one in the bedrooms can be tilted open (they can’t be opened all the way)—and no fly screens on the two patio doors! In this price range, that’s unthinkable—right in the middle of the forest.

There’s still plenty of room for improvement to justify the prices.

After filing several complaints about cottage no. 16 at the front desk.
Problems: Internet, TV, air conditioning, boiler (hot water).
I stopped by every day to reiterate the complaints, as the solutions provided had not helped.
Internet (entire park)—this has been an issue for years, and Landal/Roompot is doing “nothing” about it. Management does not take the complaints seriously.

Upon returning home, I submitted several complaints via the complaint form and email. I have not received a response from the park or headquarters.

Problemen: Internet, Tv, Airco, cv ketel (warm water).
