    We stayed at Huttopia Lac de Carcans during the major wildfires in the Gironde region. The campsite itself is beautiful, but we were very disappointed with how the situation was handled.
    During our stay there was a power outage related to the firefighting operations, temporary loss of mobile network coverage and noticeable smoke. Guests were not informed proactively about the power outage, its cause or the expected duration. We only received information after asking at reception ourselves.
    We also received no regular updates about the wildfire situation or the campsite's emergency procedures. When we asked, we were only told that, in the event of an emergency, everyone would be evacuated to the beach within ten minutes. This did not answer our questions about how the situation was being monitored or under which circumstances further action would be taken.
    As a family travelling with a young child, we no longer felt we had enough information to make informed decisions and therefore decided to leave our holiday early.
    What disappointed us even more was the customer service afterwards. Rather than addressing our concerns about communication during an exceptional situation, our complaint was repeatedly answered only by stating that there had been no official evacuation. This completely ignored the actual issues we raised.
    We understand that the campsite was not officially evacuated. However, we expected much better communication and a more customer-focused response during and after such an extraordinary event.

    We had a reservation at Huttopia Lac de Carcans starting July 25, but due to the state of emergency (Level 5, “noir”) and the authorities’ strong recommendation to avoid the area, we wanted to change our reservation. Huttopia refused to do so, even though there was plenty of availability at other campgrounds.
    We had to pay for an entirely new stay ourselves, without any leniency. The campground is now closed to new bookings, but we were told that we were “free to leave.”

    We hadden vanaf 25 juli een boeking bij Huttopia Lac de Carcans, maar door de noodsituatie (niveau 5, noir) en het dringende advies van de autoriteiten om het gebied te vermijden, wilden we omboeken. Huttopia weigerde dit, terwijl er op andere campings gewoon plek was.
    We moesten zelf een volledig nieuw verblijf betalen, zonder enige coulance. Inmiddels is de camping gesloten voor nieuwe boekingen, maar ons werd verteld dat we “prima konden afreizen”.
    Onbegrijpelijk en zeer slechte service.
