A quiet and very well-maintained campground.

I apologize in advance for the low rating I’m giving this campground, as it’s having a significant impact on its score, even though my dissatisfaction stems from a broader issue with Huttopia.

We had booked two van sites at the Aureilhan campground this summer. It turned out that the wildfires in the region were at their peak, … and since we were coming from La Rochelle, all the roads south of Bordeaux were closed, and the detour to reach the campground wasn’t feasible for the three nights we had booked. We called Huttopia to ask if, given the circumstances, it would be possible to transfer the reservation to another campground. Spots were scarce, so we opted for the Cordes-sur-Ciel campground, which offers far fewer amenities than the one in Aureilhan but was more accessible under these conditions. The request was accepted without any mention that there was a 150-euro transfer fee (equivalent to half of our initial reservation).

I only realized about this charge afterward. When I called Huttopia to ask if it was a mistake, they confirmed that it wasn’t and even questioned whether the roads were actually closed during that period. When I pressed the issue, the representative checked and confirmed that the roads were closed, but apparently I could have taken side roads or taken a detour. Nothing justified the transfer fee.

So we ended up spending our vacation at a campground with fewer amenities without being offered a refund for the difference, and on top of that, we were charged 150 euros for the transfer without even being told that there would be a fee.

I’m not sure I’ll give Huttopia another try next year. It’s disappointing and frustrating. Read more Show less
